Quotes about Forever Wild Concerts
|
"When Walkin' Jim's music
flows into you, it's like being washed by a great tide of wilderness.
I left his show feeling refreshed, revitalized, and ready to take on the
world .....each time he performs a benefit concert for Friends, we gain
a whole big troop of new members. Walkin' Jim's music makes people believe.
It inspires them to act. It changes people's hearts."”

"Forever Wild went over great with our group. It was a memorable evening enjoyed by a comprehensive cross section of our community. Many of those who attended the show could not thank us enough for sponsoring your appearance. In the week after the show I received an e-mail from a woman who attended with her two children. She said she was moved to tears by your music and your images. The Moshannon Group of the Sierra Club was proud to be associated with getting your Forever Wild message out. We linked our Wild Areas Protection Campaign in Pennsylvania with your Wilderness message. This was the first time our group ever sponsored an event that attracted so many people. Your appearance energized our group and has given us the confidence to sponsor other events. We are sponsoring the Alaska Wilderness League next month with their presentation The Last Great Wilderness Project-A Multimedia Slideshow Presentation. I would recommend the show to other
organizations as a way to get their name, or their cause, out in front
of the local community. It provides a quality evening for members of the
organization to mix it up with other members of their community. Most
of all I would recommend Forever Wild because on its own merits it deserves
to be experienced by as many people as possible.”

"We found Walkin' Jim's songs
and slides to be an effective way communicate that value of wilderness
here in the Shenandoah Valley. The audience had a great time and learned
something, too. Jim's show is helpful to include in any campaign for more
wilderness.”

"Walking Jim's voice, combined with song, beautiful photography and his sincere conviction to preserve wild places, provides for a wonderfully unique and entertaining presentation. I believe you come away from Jim's Forever Wild show with an added bounce in your step and a determination that you that you can make a difference for future generations. The Jay C. Hormel Nature Center in Austin, Minnesota has had numerous special guest programs over the last 15 years and Jim's Forever Wild program is one of the best. He engages you through his pictures, words, music, and deeds. Jim follows through and keeps you informed on wilderness issues once he leaves your community as well. It would be hard to find a better ambassador for wildlife and wild places.”

"He gives a presentation that is more than music. The songs he sings are all his own original music and while he sings them (mostly in the dark) he as a timed slide presentation going on that displays his own fabulous pictures from the wilderness areas he has hiked through all over the country. The pictures are timed so that the lyrics coordinate stunningly with the visual images. I don't know if he's a better musician, photographer, or lyricist. I sometimes think his sensitivity with words as a poet is incredible. He is a true advocate for wilderness values and really affects his audience, if one has any sensitivity to nature and the outdoors. The first time I had him here, I was struck by an adult male coming up to him afterwards and telling of the tears he had during, and as a result of his presentation. He is asked back again and again by various national outdoor and environmental groups for their annual meetings. To my knowledge, there is no one in the country doing exactly what 'Jim' does, in his combination of original poetry, music and photographs in the service of wilderness advocacy. I confess that I own most of his CD's!!”

"I am a listener to folk music, and the type of folk which inspires me most often is close to the heart. Walkin' Jim Stoltz is a great performer who I heard first on the 'Folk Sampler' on PBS in Richmond Va, singing 'If I were a Tree' and other songs. He has presented 'Forever Wild' twice now in Richmond, in 1999 on 3 weeks notice, and again in 2001, to raise money for Richmond Audubon and the Important Bird Area project to find where important bird habitats are in VA. Jim brought the audience to a standing ovation with his November, 2001 performance. He gave an impasioned, beautiful pean to wilderness and the urgency for us to save it. Some of his songs are funny, some evoke the creatures he has seen and heard, some sing praise to beauty of wild places and wild things, and some are even prayers for the earth. In this time of declining biodiversity, worldwide, and in this current Presidential administration, Jim troubadors a powerful songful voice for the many creatures and places which have no vote, and yet which so urgently deserve to be heard. Finally, Jim just makes you want to go for yourself, out again, to see wild creatures even if only in your backyard or a park. We hope to have Jim return many times to Richmond and other locations in Virginia. I have also heard three of his
children's programs and can say they are tops, too, and so needed by our
youth who don't get out often enough (esp. inner-city children), to see
wild places.”
