A Note From Jim

Fall 2007

Hello Folks -

It's been a while since I updated the site. But a lot has been happening in my life the past 15 months. I won't go into it all, but it is a big time of change for me. I did tour for a bit with the show this spring, and in early June I moved to Helena, Montana.

I have a great office downtown and a fun new employee, Carol, and a place to live within walking distance to just about everything. I'll also be closer to the land I've had for years near Marysville, where I hope to finally start working on my dream of building an off-grid, energy efficient home and sanctuary for wildlife, artists, burnt out activists, and musicians.

Thanks to my sister, Susan (some of you have her cds), I was given a wonderful trip into the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It was SO good to be back up there, and I floated the Hulahula River on the North Slope of the Brooks Range for 10 days with a great group of folks and the Arctic Wild crew. I did some great hikes and had some fun experiences with wolves, arctic foxes, and caribou. Can't wait to go back.

I got back from that trip and had about 9 days to plan a 32 day trek along the Continental Divide. I threw it together fairly easily...a walk from the Yellowstone country, where I have lived for the past 25 years, up the Divide and past Helena to my property where I'll be making my new home eventually. It was great rehiking a lot of this country and again I had some memorable experiences. It was a hot summer and the heat made it more difficult for me, but the wildflowers were incredible and some of the sunsets with the smoke from distant forest fires were amazing. The first couple weeks I mostly to myself, but later I got to meet some of this year's thru hikers walking from Canada to Mexico.Great folks. And then my kidney brother, John, met me for a few days, too. He brought a lot of fun and laughs my way, for sure.

I got back from that and flew out to Michigan for several days for my nephew's wedding. My sis, Susan, and I sang a song for the ceremony and my brother Mark and his band, K Jones and the Benzie Playboys (fun cajun/zydeco) kicked out the tunes for the outdoor reception. It was great being with my siblings and their kids and swimming in Lake Michigan and walking the sand dunes.

Now I'm gearing up for another Fall on the road. We're still scheduling and have dates open that we're trying to fill. Please check with your local elementary school to see if they'd be interested in having me visit for a day.We can send you information about the kid shows and fees, too.

We now have the kid's video, Come Walk With Me, on DVD. I hope you'll pick one up for the kid's that you know. It's perfect for little ones from 2 to 7. And come to think of it, 8 to 88!!!

We'll also be touring in the west this spring. Drop us a note if your local organization, environmental group, church, or school would be interested in hosting the show.

Happy Trails….
